Program Guide May Show Conflicts When No Conflicts Exist (812906)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you try to record a show, a Conflict dialog box may appear that prompts you to confirm the show that you want to record. However, the Conflict dialog box may list a show that you have already selected not to record when an earlier Conflict dialog box appeared.

For example, you select to record a 30-minute show on channel 12 that starts at 1:00 P.M., and you select to record a one-hour show on channel 50 that also starts at 1:00 P.M. When the Conflict dialog box appears, you select to record the show on channel 12. If you then select to record a show on channel 2 that starts at 1:30 and lasts for 30 minutes, the Conflict dialog box appears again, and it lists the one-hour show on channel 50 that starts at 1:00 P.M.

CAUSE

This problem may occur as a result of the ranking that is done by the Scheduler when you select shows to record.

When a conflict occurs and you select the show that you want to record, the record designation for the conflicting (not selected) show is not cleared.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, select the overlapping show that is causing the conflict and remove the recording designation. To do this, follow these steps and press the appropriate button on your remote control:
  1. Select My TV, and then select Guide.
  2. Select Recorded TV, and then select Scheduled.
  3. Locate and select the conflicting show, and then press OK.

Note The conflicting show will have a black exclamation point inside the red icon.
  4. Select Don't Record, and then press OK.
  5. Press Start (the green button).
  6. Select My TV, and then press OK.
  7. Open the Electronic Program Guide, and verify that the conflict no longer exists.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
