BUG: "Setup is not able to obtain information on Microsoft .NET URT" error message when you remove Visual J# .NET (812826)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to remove Microsoft Visual J# .NET after you remove Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, you may receive the following error message:
Setup is not able to obtain information on Microsoft .NET URT.
Note: You can successfully remove Visual J# .NET although you have received this error message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of Visual J# .NET Microsoft Windows Installer Custom Actions.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. If you have not installed Visual J# .NET, install this application.
  2. Remove Microsoft Visual Studio .NET. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
    2. Click Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, and then click Change/Remove.
    3. Run in uninstall mode.
    4. Click Microsoft .NET Framework, and then click Change/Remove.
    5. Follow the onscreen steps to remove the Microsoft .NET Framework.
  3. Click Microsoft Visual J# .NET, and then click Change/Remove. The error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section appears.
  4. Click OK.
  5. In the Visual J# .NET Setup dialog box, continue in Remove mode. The error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section appears.
  6. Visual J# .NET is removed successfully. Click Finish.
