You experience delays when you try to log on to Exchange Server 5.5 (812595)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 5.5

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You experience delays when you try to log on to Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5. Then, you use the Performance Monitor to view a Thread Count counter. The Thread Count counter is for the Local Security Authentication Server (LSASS) process on the computer that is running Exchange Server 5.5. When you view the Thread Count counter, you may notice that the thread count for the LSASS process continues to increase.

CAUSE

The delay occurs because of the time that the information store thread spends looking up an account security identifier (SID) in the Active Directory directory service.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the following update rollup or hotfix. After you install the update rollup or the hotfix, the information store thread first looks up the SID in the LSASS. If the information store thread cannot locate the SID in the LSASS, the information store thread then searches Active Directory.

Update rollup information
