SYMPTOMS
After you update the
urn:schemas-microsoft-com:publishing:ServerURL attribute to use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the
SharePoint Portal Server, the SharePoint Portal Server continues to use the
network basic input/output system (NetBIOS) name of the server in the
From box of notification e-mail messages. However, the FQDN is used in
the e-mail message title and body after you apply the update that is available through the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

RESOLUTION
This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you have installed SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 3 or a later service pack, you do not have to apply the hotfix.

This problem was first corrected in SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 3.
