Wrong Font Is Used if the Office Preference Files Are Damaged (812574)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office v. X for Mac, when used with:
    • Microsoft Entourage X
    • Microsoft Excel X for Mac
    • Microsoft PowerPoint X for Mac
    • Microsoft Word X for Mac

SYMPTOMS

When you click Arial Black on the formatting palette, Arial Narrow may be chosen instead.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Office preference files have become damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Double-click Macintosh HD.
  2. On the toolbar, click Home.
  3. Double-click the Library folder.
  4. Double-click the Preferences folder.
  5. Double-click the Microsoft folder.
  6. Drag the following files to the desktop:
    • Carbon Registration Database
    • Microsoft Component Preferences
    • Microsoft Office Settings (10)
    • Office Font Cache (10)
    • Word Font Substitutes
    • Word Settings (10)
  7. Start Word to rebuild the preference files. After the files have been rebuilt, you can put the preference files in the trash.
