Local Quorum Resource Not Available After Upgrade to Windows Server 2003 (812544)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server-based computer to Windows Server 2003 , the Local Quorum resource type is not available. The Local Quorum resource type is available when you install a new copy of Windows Server 2003.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, manually register the Local Quorum resource type. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type CMD, and then press ENTER.
  3. Type the following command:

    CLUSTER RESTYPE "Local Quorum" /CREATE /DLL:ClusRes.dll

If you want to register the resource type with a localized display name, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type CMD, and then press ENTER.
  3. Type the following command (including the quotation marks)

    CLUSTER RESTYPE "LocalizedDisplayName" /CREATE /DLL:ClusRes.dll /TYPE:"Local Quorum"

    where LocalizedDisplayName is the name of the resource.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
