DirectX: Direct3d Acceleration Test Failed at Step 5 (812491)

SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Microsoft DirectX Diagnostic Tool and run
the Direct3D test, you may receive the following error message: failure at step 5 (get device caps): hresult = 0x8876086a 3-d not
available CAUSEThis issue occurs because the Direct3D settings indicate
that Direct3D is enabled, when in fact it is disabled.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- If the DirectX Diagnostic Tool is not already open, follow
these steps:
- Click Start, and then click
Run.
- In the Open box type
DXdiag, then click OK.
- Click the Display tab.
- Verify that Direct3D Acceleration is
listed as Enabled and the button to the right indicates
Disable.
- Click Disable.
- When you receive the following warning, click
OK:
This will re-enable hardware
acceleration of Direct3D for ALL display devices on your
system. - Verify that Direct3D Acceleration is still
listed as Enabled and the button to the right indicates
Disable.
- Click Disable
- When you receive the following warning, click
OK:
This will disable hardware
acceleration of Direct3D for ALL display devices on your
system. Direct3d Acceleration now indicates that it is
Disabled and the button to the right now indicates
Enable. Click Enable one more time to
properly start Direct3D Acceleration for your computer's
display.
