XADM: Migrated Mailbox Cannot Receive Mail (812279)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

SYMPTOMS

After your Exchange Server mailbox is migrated to Exchange 2000, you cannot receive mail from Exchange Server users, Exchange 2000 users, or Internet users.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the msExchUnmergedAttsPt attribute in the mailbox properties retains a value that points to the Exchange Server MDB attribute when the mailbox was migrated from Exchange Server to Exchange 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use ADSI Edit to remove the value from the msExchUnmergedAttsPt attribute. To do so, follow these steps. Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, or both. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.
  1. Start ADSI Edit from Windows 2000 Support Tools.
  2. Expand Domain NC [Your_Server.Your_Domain.Domain] \DC=Your_Domain, DC=Domain\CN=Users.
  3. Right-click the mailbox that you want to edit, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Attributes tab, and then in the Select which options to view list, click Optional.
  5. In the Select a property to view box, click msExchUnmergedAttsPt.
  6. Click the Value box, and then click Clear.
  7. Select the value in the Edit Attribute box and then press DELETE.
  8. Click Apply, and then click OK.
