XCCC: New Mail Notifications Stop After Removing Portable Computer from Docking Station (812224)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
SYMPTOMS When you work in Microsoft Outlook 2000 on a portable
computer, after you disconnect from the docking station you continue to receive
new messages without interruption, but you do not receive new mail
notifications.STATUS This
behavior is by design. This issue occurs when all the following
conditions are true:
- You work in Outlook 2000 on your portable computer from the
docking station.
- You disconnect from the docking station and start using
the wireless network card.
- You continue to work in Outlook 2000 without logging
off.
When you open Outlook, Outlook establishes a User Datagram
Protocol (UDP) registration for new mail notifications. When you disconnect
from your docking station and start to work by using your wireless network
card, the UDP registration is no longer valid and Outlook begins to poll for
new messages. While working in polling mode, Outlook will not receive new mail
notifications. WORKAROUNDTo workaround this issue, close and then reopen Outlook
after you remove your computer from the docking station.
