Preloading of NetBIOS Names May Cause a Non-Paged Pool Leak (812214)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0

SYMPTOMS

Preloading of NetBIOS names from the Lmhost file may cause a non-paged pool leak with Nbt0 and Nbt tags on Windows NT 4.0-based computers. Performance Monitor shows an increase in pool non-paged bytes. If you turn on pool tagging and run the PoolMon tool, you may see increasing non-paged pool memory with Nbt0 and Nbt tags. If this problem persists, the computer eventually runs out of non-paged pool and stops responding (hangs). You must restart the computer to recover from this memory leak.

You can reproduce this problem by running the nbtstat -R command. Each time that you run this command, non-paged pool leaks with Nbt0 and Nbt tags.
