XADM: Mailbox Deletions Come Back After ADC Replication Cycle (812067)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

If you use Active Directory User and Computers to delete an Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox from Windows 2000 Active Directory, the deleted mailbox is replicated back to Active Directory. This behavior occurs only if Active Directory Connector (ADC) between the Exchange Server 5.5 and Active Directory is a two-way Connection Agreement that is configured to save deletes to a CSV/LDF file.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the ADC is disabling the Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox (as expected), but it does not update the ReplicatedObjectVersion attribute. The ADC sees the deletion in Active Directory, it tombstones the ADCGlobalNames attribute on the Exchange Server 5.5 object. However, because ADC does not update the ReplicatedObjectVersion attribute, it now treats this deletion as the newest change. On the next cycle, ADC replicates the mailbox from Exchange Server 5.5 back to Active Directory.
