The mouse and the keyboard may not be detected when you install the Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth (811805)

the mouse and the keyboard may not be detected. Additionally, you
may receive the following error message: Could not discover a
Bluetooth device. Make sure it is turned on and that you have followed the
manufacturer's documentation. CAUSEThis issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
- There was a problem enumerating or installing the Microsoft
Bluetooth Transceiver. The Bluetooth Transceiver is the Bluetooth device that plugs into the USB port.
- You do not have Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed. Microsoft Bluetooth is supported only by Windows XP SP1.
- There was a problem with the Bluetooth Stack.
- Microsoft IntelliType Pro 2.3 and Microsoft IntelliPoint 4.9 were not installed or there is a problem with one of these devices.
Note IntelliType Pro 2.3 must be installed for the Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard
to work correctly.
IntelliPoint 4.9 must be installed for the Microsoft Bluetooth mouse to
work correctly.
RESOLUTIONWarning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. To resolve this issue, remove the Bluetooth components,
and then install the Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth. To do this, follow
these steps:
- Unplug the transceiver.
- Remove IntelliPoint version 4.9 and IntelliType Pro version
2.3. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Control
Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove
Programs.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to remove the
software, and then restart the computer.
- Remove Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) for Bluetooth Wireless Devices. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Control
Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove
Programs.
- Follow the directions that appear on the screen to remove the
software, and then restart the computer.

Availability of Windows XP Service Pack 1 Support for Bluetooth Wireless Devices
- Click Start, click Run,
type regedit in the Open box, and then
click OK.
- To delete certain registry keys, you must change the permissions.
To do this, right-click the key, click Permissions, and then
click Allow Full control for the user EVERYONE.
Delete the following registry keys:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\BTH
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\BTHENUM
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\Vid_045e... All where the DeviceDesc on the first sub-folder mentions
Microsoft Bluetooth.

Note You must leave the following registry key. You cannot delete this registry key because
you cannot change the permissions for the "CREATOR OWNER" account. The "CREATOR OWNER" account has this registry locked. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BTHPORT
- Restart the computer in a clean-boot state.

How to troubleshoot by using the System Configuration utility in Windows XP
- Reinstall the Bluetooth stack. To do this, follow these steps:
- Put the Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth CD in
your CD or DVD drive, and then double-click My
Computer.
- Right-click the CD or DVD drive, and then click
Explore.
- Open the Prereq\BthStack\Enu folder.
- Double-click the Q323183_wxp_sp2_x86_enu.exe file.
- When the computer is in a clean-boot state, install the
Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth, IntelliPoint, and IntelliType
software.
- Plug in your transceiver, restart the computer to the standard startup state, and
then make sure that you have Bluetooth functionality.
