Cannot remove Exchange 2000 Server from a cluster node after you remove the organization (811654)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to remove Exchange 2000 Server from a cluster
node, you may not be able to do so and you may experience one or more of the
following symptoms:
- If you are logged on as an administrator, you may receive
an error message that is similar to the following:
The
component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be
assigned the action "Remove" because: You must be at least a Exchange
Full Administrator at the Administrative Group level to run setup. You must use an
account that has been granted the Exchange Full Administrator role on the
current Administrative Group, or a higher level role, by using the Exchange
Administrative Delegation Wizard. - If you are logged on as a member of the Domain Admins
security group, the removal continues but is not successful. The Microsoft
Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services component is not
removed.
CAUSEThis problem may exist in the following scenario:
- You install Exchange Server on a cluster node in an
organization that contains a non-clustered Exchange 2000 server.
- You remove the mailboxes from the clustered Exchange
Server, and then remove the Exchange Virtual Server, also known as a cluster
group, from the cluster node.
- You remove Exchange 2000 Server from the non-clustered
server and remove the organization.
- You try to remove Exchange 2000 Server from the cluster
node.
When you remove the last Exchange 2000 Server, Setup removes the
organization from the Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory and from the
Exchange Administrator. Because of this, you can no longer remove Exchange 2000
Server from the cluster node. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, follow these steps:
- Run the Setup.exe from the Exchange 2000 Server CD-ROM with
the /forestprep switch, and then again with the /domainprep switch.
- Install Exchange 2000 Server on the non-clustered
server.
- Remove Exchange 2000 Server from the cluster
node.
- Remove Exchange 2000 Server from the non-clustered
server.
STATUS Microsoft has confirmed
that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
