The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE)
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
SYMPTOMSIf you log on to a computer with an account that has
administrative user rights by using the fast user switching operation in
Microsoft Windows XP, and you try to install SQL Server 2000 Desktop
Engine (MSDE 2.0), the installation fails. The setup program stops
responding and you receive this error message: Please
wait while Windows configures Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine Time
remaining: 6 seconds You can click Cancel;
however, the setup program is not canceled and the program does not
respond. Although the setup fails, the Microsoft SQL Server folder created
during the installation is not deleted. CAUSESome programs developed before Windows XP may not be
compatible with the new multiuser feature provided by Windows XP Fast User
Switching.
Note: The MSDE 1.0 setup succeeds because MSDE 1.0 uses a
different installation technology.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, log on to the computer with a
user account that has administrative user rights, and then install SQL
Server 2000 Desktop Engine.REFERENCES
