Windows Explorer View Does Not Refresh After You Install Internet Explorer 6 on Windows 98 Second Edition (811477)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Internet Explorer 6 on a computer that is running Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Explorer may not refresh disk content after you insert a new disk. For example, after you insert a disk into the disk drive and then click drive A in Windows Explorer, you can see the contents of the disk. However, if you insert a new disk into the disk drive and then click drive A to view the drive in Windows Explorer, the content is not updated.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use either of the following methods:
  • After you insert the second disk, press the F5 key.

    -or-
  • After you insert the second disk, click Refresh on the View menu in Windows Explorer.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
