XL2002: An Additional "Object" Workbook Opens and Excel Appears to Stop Responding (811344)
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you double-click a Microsoft Excel workbook, a blank
workbook that is named "Object" may open with the workbook that you
double-clicked. If you quit Excel, and then double-click a workbook, Excel
appears to stop responding (hang). The Excel program window is displayed, and
you can use the menu commands and toolbars. However, the workbook is not
displayed correctly in the Excel window.CAUSEThis problem may occur if the following conditions exist in
this order:
- You download and open an Excel workbook in Microsoft
Internet Explorer.
- You visit a different Web site in Internet Explorer.
Note The Excel.exe process continues to run on your computer.
- You open an Excel workbook on your hard disk by
double-clicking it in Windows Explorer.
- You quit Excel, and then open another Excel workbook on
your hard disk by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer.
In this situation, Excel does not correctly redraw the
screen. RESOLUTIONThis problem is corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP. methods:
- Quit Internet Explorer before you open other Excel
workbooks.
- Use Task Manager to end the Excel.exe process. Do so when
you visit a different Web site after you download and open a workbook in
Internet Explorer. To end the Excel.exe process:
- Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
- Click Task Manager, and then click the
Processes tab.
- In the list of processes, click
Excel.exe, and then click End
Process.
- Click Yes when you are prompted to
confirm that you want to end the process.
- Quit Task Manager.
STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
