OL2002: Error Message When You Open an E-Mail Message in Your HTTP Account After You Install Outlook 2002 Update: December 4, 2002 (811159)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Outlook 2002 with an HTTP account and you open or view an e-mail message, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • Outlook 2002 may stop responding (hang).
  • Outlook 2002 may quit unexpectedly.
  • You may receive the following error message:
    Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    If you click the click here button on the error message to view the data in the error report, you may receive error signature information that is similar to the following:

    Appname:outlook.exe  AppVer:10.0.4510.0  ModName:unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0   Offset: 022d99d3
    

MSN Hotmail is an example of an HTTP account that you might use with Outlook 2002.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you apply the Outlook 2002 Update: December 4, 2002 on a computer on which Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP-1) is installed. This occurs because of a dependency between a file in the Outlook update and a file that is updated by Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2).

This problem does not occur if you apply the Outlook 2002 Update: December 4, 2002 on a computer on which Office XP Service Pack 2 ( SP-2) is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods:

Method 1: Install Office XP SP-2
