"Failed to Create Device: Ntsppoe" Error Message When You Use EnterNet 300 Software to Connect to the Internet (811015)

SUMMARY

After you upgrade your computer to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, you may receive the following error message when you try to connect to the Internet through a Point-to-Point protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) by using Efficient Networks Inc.'s EnterNet 300 software:
Failed to create device: NTSPPPOE
Note: EnterNet 300 is a PPPoE program that provides access to high-speed broadband networks.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove and reinstall the EnterNet software. To do so:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In Add/Remove Programs, click the EnterNet 300 software, and then click Change/Remove.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the EnterNet software.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Reinstall the EnterNet software.
If this does not resolve the issue, verify that the virtual network adapter that the EnterNet software uses is available. To do so:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click Hardware, and then click Device Manager.
  3. In Device Manager, double click Network adapters. The list that appears should display Efficient Networks Enternet P.P.P.o.E Adapter.
  4. Quit Device Manager.
If the EnterNet adapter does not appear on the list, you must add it to the list. To do so:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Hardware.
  3. In the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard click Next, and then click Next again.
  4. From the list of devices click Add a new device, and then click Next.
  5. Click No, I want to select the hardware from a list, and then click Next.
  6. Click Network adapters, and then click Next.
  7. Click Have disk, click Browse to locate the Ntspppoe.inf file that is provided with the EnterNet installation files, and then click Open.
  8. Click OK.
  9. On the Select Network Adapter page, click Efficient Networks P.P.P.o.E Adapter (NTSP3), and then click Next.
  10. Click Next, and then click Finish.
  11. Restart your computer.
