SYMPTOMS

When you try to start the Broadband Network Utility (BNU), the window may open, and then close right away. Additionally, you may not be able to connect to the network or to the Internet.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if network adapters are installed that are interfering with your wireless network. On Microsoft Windows 98-based computers or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition-based computers, this issue may be caused by America Online (AOL) network adapters.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the network adapters that you do not need, and then reinstall the BNU:

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
  2. Right-click any network connections that you do not need or that you are not using, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Note On a Windows 98-based computer, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, click Network, and then click the Configuration tab.
  3. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Click Change or Remove Programs, click Microsoft Broadband Networking, click Remove, and then click OK to confirm the removal.
  5. Restart your computer, and then reinstall the BNU from the installation disk.
