You Cannot Participate in Multiple-Player Games After You Install DirectX 8.2 (810961)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade DirectX to version 8.2, you may experience any of the following symptoms when you participate in multiple-player games:
  • You cannot see other players.
  • Other players cannot see you.
  • Other players cannot see one another.
  • You cannot communicate with other players.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when both of the following conditions are true:
  • You have installed DirectX 8.2 on your computer.

    -and-
  • You are playing against players who have an earlier version of DirectX, such as 8.1 or earlier.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install DirectX 9.0. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
