Outlook 2002: Word 2002 as E-Mail Editor Causes an Error Message (810940)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 2002, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
SYMPTOMSWhen you open a new message in Outlook 2002, or point to
Send To, and then click Mail Recipient in
Microsoft Word 2002, you may receive an error message that is similar to the
following: Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. This symptom only
occurs if you are using Word 2002 as your e-mail editor on your Windows 98
Second Edition-based computer. CAUSEThis issue may occur if you install a program that replaces
the following files with versions that are incompatible with Outlook 2002:
- Msvcrt.dll (version 7.0.2600.0)
- Oleaut32.dll (version 3.50.5014.0)
- Olepro32.dll (version 5.0.5014.0)
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, use System File Checker to replace
the incompatible files with the version of these files from the Windows 98
Second Edition CD-ROM:
- Click Start, and then click
Run.
- In the Open box, type
sfc, and then click OK.
- In System File Checker, click Extract one file from
installation disk.
- In the Specify the system file you would like to
restore box, type msvcrt.dll , and then click
Start.
- In the Restore from box, type
CD-ROM drive
letter:\win98.
- In the Save file in box, type
c:\windows\system, and then click
OK.
- In the Backup File dialog box, click
OK.
- In the Extract File dialog box, click
No.
- Repeat steps 3-8 to replace the Oleaut32.dll and
Olepro32.dll files.
- After you replace the three files, quit System File
Checker, and then restart your computer.
