CAUSE

This behavior may be caused by an older file from a Beta version of Microsoft Windows XP and the Internet Explorer 6 Public Preview releases. You might experience this symptom if you upgraded from a Beta release of Windows XP or from the Internet Explorer 6 Public Preview, or if you are still running a Windows XP Beta version or Internet Explorer 6 Public Preview release.

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Remove Smart Tags Support for Internet Explorer

  2. In Control Panel, start the Add or Remove Programs tool (or the Add/Remove Programs tool).
  3. Click Smart tags support for Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then click Change/Remove (or click Add/Remove).

Disable Smart Tags in Internet Explorer

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click to clear the Enable smart tags check box.
  4. Click OK, and then restart Internet Explorer.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows XP Beta and the Internet Explorer 6 Public Preview releases are Beta software that was distributed for feedback and testing purposes. Microsoft does not provide technical support for beta products, and recommends that you install them in a test environment, not in a production environment. The second Public Preview release of Internet Explorer 6 (version 6.00.2479.0006) and some Beta releases of Windows XP included Smart tags. Smart tags were removed from the final released versions of Internet Explorer 6 and Windows XP based on customer feedback.
