XADM: Public Folders Do Not Replicate from Exchange 2000 Server (810871)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
SYMPTOMSMail-enabled public folders that are created on Exchange
2000 Server may not appear in the Global Address List of Exchange Server
5.5-based servers. When you try to open the properties of these public folders
by using the Exchange Server 5.5 Administration program, you may receive the
following error message: The object cannot be found in
the directory. This may be because replication has not completed. c1010aae
Note No error messages are generated by your Active Directory
Connector or your Public Folder Connection Agreement. CAUSE This issue may occur if client permissions on the Exchange
2000 Server public folder have been set to Deny or None. By default, the Active
Directory Connector and the Public Folder Connection Agreement do not permit
replication of secure items from Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory to the
Exchange Server 5.5 folder. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods.
Method 1: Remove Deny Permissions on the Exchange Server 2000 Public Folder To check or configure client permissions on the Exchange Server
2000 public folder:
- Start Exchange System Manager.
- Expand Folders, and then expand
Public Folders.
- Right-click the public folder that you want to configure,
and then click Properties.
- Click the Permissions tab, and then
configure permissions for the folder by using the following methods:
- To assign access rights to the public folder, click
Client permissions. You can grant access to user accounts by
defining pre-configured sets of permissions, or you can set up custom
permissions. This task is similar to adding members to a group object in Active
Directory. Verify that you have Deny client permissions on the public folder.
If any user or group has permissions of None, this results in Deny
permissions.
- To assign access rights to change the public folder
object that is stored in Active Directory, click Directory
rights. After you select the user accounts that exist, you can grant
or deny standard Windows 2000 permissions to read, write, or perform
administrative tasks to the public folder object.
- To specify which users can set folder permissions,
click Administrative rights. After you select the user
accounts that exist, you can grant or deny administrative
permissions.
- To verify the Deny permissions, press and hold down the
CTRL key while you click Client Permissions. This opens the
Windows 2000 Active Control Lists (ACL) on the public folder object.
Note Do not modify permissions in this mode because this breaks
permissions on the public folder.
Method 2: Permit Replication of Secure Items You can modify the Active Directory Connector or Public Folder
Connection agreements to permit replication of secure items from Windows 2000
Active Directory to the Exchange Server 5.5 Directory:
- To start the Active Directory Connector Management tool,
click Start, point to Administrative Tools,
and then click Active Directory Connector Management.
- Open your Public Folder Connection Agreement, and then
click the From Windows tab.
- Click to select the Replicate secured Active
Directory objects to the Exchange Directory check box.
This
permits objects that are created on Exchange 2000 Server that have a Deny
permission to be replicated to the Exchange directory. - Click the Schedule tab, and then click to
select the Replicate the entire directory the next time the agreement
is run check box.
- For the replication schedule, click to select the
Always check box.
- To close the Properties dialog box of the Connection
Agreement, click OK.
- To force replication, right-click Connection
Agreement , and then click Replicate Now.
