DirectX 9: Other Computers Cannot Join a Game Through the Internet Hosted by a Windows Millennium-Edition Based Computer Running Internet Connection Sharing (810771)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Runtime
SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Microsoft DirectPlay protocol to host a
multiple-player game on a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition-based computer
that is running Internet Connection Sharing and DirectX 9 or later, computers
that are outside your Internet Connection Sharing network cannot join the game
session over the Internet.CAUSEWhen three or more computers (including the host) have
already joined the game from inside the Internet Connection Sharing network,
DirectPlay denies access to computers that try to join the game through the
Internet.WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, require computers that are
outside your Internet Connection Sharing network to join the game session
before computers that are in your Internet Connection Sharing network join the
game session.
