The information in this article applies to:

  • Links 2003 Championship Edtn EN
  • Microsoft Links 2003
  • Microsoft Links 2003 Championship Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Links 2003, you may receive an error message similar to the following after the introductory video clip plays:
Stop Error: WACMStreamSize Failed (0x5- Winerr-Access Is Denied-est dst Size=0 bytes)

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if your sound card is incompatible with Links 2003.

This is known to occur with some ESS Solo PCI and Philips Acoustic Edge PSC706 sound cards.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, temporarily disable your computer's sound card. To do so:

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage. The Computer Management snap-in opens.
  2. In the left pane, expand Device Manager.
  3. In the right pane, expand Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices.
  4. Right-click the entry for your sound card, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the General tab (if it is not already selected). In the Device usage box, click Do not use this device (disable), and then click OK.
  6. Quit the Computer Management snap-in.
  7. Start Links 2003.

If you can start and play Links 2003 and you no longer receive the error message described earlier in the "Symptoms" section of this article, your sound card may be incompatible with Links 2003. You may want to consider replacing your sound card.
