HTTP 400 Error Message When You Try to Locate a Web Folder that Contains 0x5c in DBCS (810709)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to locate a folder that is stored in a SharePoint Portal Server workspace, you receive an HTTP 400 error message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the folder name is in double-byte character set (DBCS) and contains the character code "0x5c". The "0x5c" in the DBCS is mishandled as a "\".

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next SharePoint Portal Server 2001 service pack that contains this hotfix.
