Video That Uses Indeo3 Codec May Become Inverted When Moved Between Primary and Secondary Display (810691)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP1
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1
SYMPTOMSWhen you use Windows Media Player to view an Audio-Video
Interleaved file (.avi) that uses the Indeo3 codec, the video may become
inverted if you turn on the extended desktop and if the video has been moved
back and forth between the primary and secondary displays.
This
problem has been seen only with media that is encoded with the Indeo3 codec.
NOTE: this behavior is not specific to Windows Media Player (other
players have also exhibited this behavior). CAUSEThis problem has been seen to occur only when all the
following conditions are true:
- The AVI that you are viewing uses the Indeo3 codec for
compression.
- The secondary display has a higher color depth setting than
the primary display (for example, primary is 16-bit color depth; secondary is
32-bit color depth).
- You turn on the extended desktop feature.
- You drag the video between the primary and secondary
display several times.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this behavior, set the color depth of your
primary monitor to the same or greater color depth as that of the secondary
monitor.STATUS
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this
article when the information becomes available.
