VSO2002: You Receive the "AD&L Functionality Is Not Available" Error Message When You Try to Use the AutoDiscovery and Layout Solution (810629)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional
- Microsoft Visio Enterprise Network Tools
- Microsoft Visio Network Central
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to use the AutoDiscovery and Layout solution in
Visio 2002, you may receive the following error message: AD&L functionality is not available in this document because
it is not connected to a database. Please re-open
solution. CAUSEThis issue may occur if the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE)
cannot locate the Adlclassmap.mdf file. This issue may also occur if you
remove, and then reinstall MSDE.
When MSDE is removed from the
computer, it does not remove the ADLclassmap database files such as
Adlclassmap.mdf and Adl.mdf, that are created by the AutoDiscovery and Layout
solution. As a result, these files remain in the
drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data
folder on your hard disk, where drive is the drive
on which MSDE is installed. When you reinstall MSDE, MSDE does not recognize
and use the database files although they exist in the same
location.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, delete the ADLclassmap database
files. After you delete the database files, you can use the AutoDiscovery and
Layout solution to perform a network discovery to create a new database:
- Quit Visio 2002.
- Start Microsoft Windows Explorer, and then locate the
following folder, where drive is the drive on which
MSDE is installed:
drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data - Right-click the Adlclassmap.mdf file, and
then click Delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click
Yes.
- Right-click Adl.mdf, and then click
Delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click
Yes.
- Start Visio 2002.
- On the File menu, point to
New, point to Network, and then click
AutoDiscovery and Layout.
- On the AutoDiscovery menu, point to
Discovery, and then click Discovery
Wizard.
Follow the instructions that appear to perform a
network discovery and create a database of devices that are found on your
network.
