Windows XP does not recognize a Canon PowerShot S100 digital camera (810609)

SUMMARYWhen you connect a Canon PowerShot S100 digital camera to a
Toshiba Laptop that runs Microsoft Windows XP, the camera may not be
recognized. If you then download and install new drivers from the Canon Web site, you receive the following error message when Windows XP tries to detect the camera: windows image acquisition service error system cannot find file
specified "imaging" CAUSEThis behavior may occur when any of the following conditions are true: - The TWAIN driver files become
corrupted or mismatched.
- Older TWAIN drivers were installed before the Canon Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) software was installed.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this behavior, you must first remove all related camera drivers, and then reinstall the updated drivers - Create a new folder on drive C named Camera.
- To download updated WIA drivers for your camera model, visit the following Canon Web
site:
- Save the new driver file to the C:\Camera folder.
- Click Start, click Control
Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Select the Canon camera software, and then click
Remove. Repeat this step until all Canon camera software has been removed.
- Disconnect all Universal Serial Port (USB) port devices except drivers for the keyboard and mouse.
- Restart the computer to make sure that all driver files are unloaded from memory and removed.
- Open the C:\Camera folder and then double-click the driver file to start the extraction wizard. The wizard will default to the
C:\Windows\Desktop folder. Note Do not use this default folder. You must specify the C:\Camera folder on the Extract to command line.
- Extract the files.
- Open the C:\Camera folder, and then open the English subfolder.
- Double-click Setup.exe to start installation.
- Connect the camera to the USB port. After the computer detects the camera, you may receive an error message similar to the following:

system cannot find file specified, "imaging." Click OK in response to this message. - Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
- On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging Devices. The camera should now be listed.
- Right-click the camera name, and then click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
- Click to select Install the software automatically (Recommended), and then click Next. The new driver files may be located in the
C:\Windows\Twain_32\Canondc folder. Click Next to finish the wizard.
- Disconnect the camera from the USB port.
- Restart the computer to make sure all new driver files are loaded into memory.
- Reconnect the camera to the USB port of the computer. A Choose Application window will appear to ask what program to
use for imaging.
