PRJ2000: Setup Does Not Recognize Your Windows XP Professional CD as Valid (810593)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Project 2000 on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
Windows files must be installed for your installation to proceed. Insert your Windows XP Professional CD.
After you insert the Windows XP Professional CD, Setup does not recognize it as a valid XP Professional CD.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you did not install FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions from Microsoft before before you try to install Microsoft Project 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, and then install Microsoft Project. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

    The Windows Components Wizard starts.
  3. In the Components box, click to select the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box, and then click Details.

NOTE: Do not clear the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box. If you do so, you will remove IIS components.
  4. Under Subcomponents of Internet Information Services, select FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, and then click OK.
  5. Click Next.

If you install FrontPage Server Extensions on a computer that has a single Web server, the FrontPage Server Extensions are installed in the content area of the Web server. If the server is IIS, the initial administrator account is the same as your system administrator account.
  6. After the installation is complete, install Microsoft Project.
