SYMPTOMSWhen you install a Pre-boot Execution Environment (PXE) client from a Windows 2000 Remote Installation Server (RIS) that is a member of a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory domain, you may receive the following error message: The user %USERNAME% currently logged on to this computer does not have the permissions needed to create a computer account or modify the computer account %MACHINENAME% (%NETBIOSNAME%) within the domain %MACHINEDOMAIN%.
Where %USERNAME%, %MACHINENAME%, (%NETBIOSNAME%), %MACHINEDOMAIN% are names specific to your domain. The RIS server sends this error message in the 00004e4f.osc file. CAUSEThis problem occurs because Windows 2000 Boot Negotiation Layer (BINL) service uses the LDAP_MOD_ADD call to add the UserAccountControl attribute to a computer account. Windows Server 2003 expects a BINL server to use the LDAP_MOD_REPLACE call instead.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, install the following hotfix on the Windows 2000 RIS server to update Windows 2000 BINL to use LDAP_MOD_REPLACE instead of LDAP_MOD_ADD. A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.
