Hotfix Information
A supported fix is now available
from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in
this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific
problem. This fix may receive additional testing to further ensure product
quality. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft
recommends that you wait for the next Office XP Public Update that contains
this fix.

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for

attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and
times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you
view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the
difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To use the hotfix, follow these steps.
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
- Create a Dword registry key with the following settings:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Options\ShowWorkPaneAtStartup
- Set the value of the key to 1 to turn on the hotfix, or set
the value of the key to 0 to ignore the hotfix.
This fix is a post Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2)
fix. To install the fix you must have Office XP SP-2 installed on your
computer.
