FPNW Server Stops Responding When Clients Access Folders on a Mapped Volume (810075)

SYMPTOMS

When a client computer tries to access a folder on your Windows 2000 Server-based computer, you may receive a Stop error message similar to the following on a blue screen:
0x0000000a (0x00300033, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8042d8fe)

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The folder that you access resides on a mapped volume on a Windows 2000 Server computer that is running File and Print services for NetWare (FPNW).
  • The path of the folder is greater than 256 characters.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
