The information in this article applies to:

- Microsoft Works 2.0a
- Microsoft Works 3.0
- Microsoft Works 3.0a
- Microsoft Works 3.0b
This article was previously published under Q80666 SUMMARY
Microsoft Works for Windows will not allow you to save a file with the
same filename and extension (in a different directory) as a file that
is already open. Additionally, you cannot open two files with the same
filename and extension at the same time, even though the files exist
in different directories or on different logical drives.
WORKAROUNDWorkaround 1
Close the first file (C:\HOME\MAILLIST.WDB in the example above) and
Works will allow you to save the second file with the same filename
and extension to a different directory.
Workaround 2
Save the second file with a different, but similar, name. This is the
preferred method if you want later to open the two files at the same
time, since Works will not allow you to open two files with the same
name at the same time.
