Cannot Choose Drive or Directory with Complete Installation (80658)

SUMMARY

Microsoft Works for Windows installs to the C:\MSWORKS directory by default when the Complete Installation option is chosen during Setup. You must choose Custom Installation in order to specify a drive and directory other than C:\MSWORKS.

To specify a different drive and directory for Works for Windows, follow the instructions below.

Note: If you are using the keyboard, you can select buttons or options by pressing ALT and the letter that is underlined in the button or option name.

  1. Start Windows in standard or enhanced mode.
  2. From the Program Manager's File menu, choose Run and type A:\SETUP (or B:\SETUP) in the Command Line box. Place the Works for Windows Setup disk (Disk 1) in drive A (or B), and press ENTER.
  3. The Works for Windows Setup screen will display a welcome message. Choose the Continue button or press ENTER.
  4. If you have previously installed Works for Windows, a copyright warning dialog box will appear. Choose the Continue button or press ENTER to continue. If this is your first installation of Works for Windows you will be prompted for your name and company (if applicable). Enter the requested information and press ENTER. You will be asked to confirm that the information you just entered is correct. Press ENTER to continue or choose the Retry button to enter the information again.
  5. The Setup Options dialog box will appear. Choose the Custom Installation button.
  6. The Destination Path dialog box will appear. Type the drive letter, followed by a colon, a backslash, and the directory where you want to install Works for Windows. For example, to install to the WINWORKS directory on drive D, you would type D:\WINWORKS. Choose the Continue button.
  7. The Custom Installation dialog box will appear. Selected items will have X's in their check boxes. To select or clear a box, click the check box or press ALT and the letter that is underlined in the option name. To perform a complete installation, select all the boxes. When you have selected the items you want to install, choose the Install Now button.
  8. The Setup program will prompt you for the appropriate disks as needed. When Setup is complete, you will be asked if you want to start Works or return to Microsoft Windows.
