SYMPTOMS

The Budget Report includes an option to show transactions that are transfers. However, transfers are not considered categories and are not displayed in the Budget Report.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Enter each side of the transfer separately in each account. That is, do not select Transfer in the Category field for any transaction.

Method 2

  1. Enter the transaction, making the category a split transaction rather than a transfer.
  2. In the split screen, enter the first item, making transfer the category (as you would have in the Account Register).
  3. Enter a second item in the split screen, but categorize this one. Use the same dollar amount as you used for the transfer, and choose or create the appropriate category to reflect the action taken.

Note This will be the information that is visible in the report.
  4. Enter one more item in the split screen to cancel the bogus entry that was just entered. Use the same dollar amount, but make it negative. You may want to create a category to properly organize this type of activity such as "Bogus."

Note You will have a category in the report called Bogus that should be ignored. If needed, cancel the selection of this category by customizing the report.
