WinWord: RTF Conversion of TC Field with Extended Character (79741)

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for Windows version 2.0, when importing an RTF document that contains a table of contents entry (TC) field with an extended character (that is, one above ASCII 127), the character defaults to 'C "###"' (where ### is the numeric key code).

Steps to Reproduce Problem

1. From the File menu, choose Open, and choose the OK button.
2. On the ribbon, choose the Show/Hide button to reveal hidden codes.
3. Press CTRL+F9 to insert field braces, and type the following information:

   {TC \f <ALT> 0244}

   To obtain "<ALT> 0244," hold the down the ALT key, and type 0244 on the numeric keypad with NUM LOCK on.
4. From the File menu, choose Save As. In the Save File as Type box, select Rich Text Format (RTF).
5. From the File menu, choose Open, and convert the file from RTF format.

After you open the document, the TC field appears as follows: Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows version 2.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
