SUMMARY
Steps for changing document fonts and styles depend on which Works module
you are using. The steps for changing the format of headers and footers in
the Word Processor, Spreadsheet, and Database modules are listed below.
NOTE: The style of headers and footers in any module is determined by the default font in the Word Processor module. For example, if you want your footer to be bold and italicized in the database (any view), you would set the default font in the Word Processor to have bold and italic formatting. The Spreadsheet and Database modules get the font from the row and column headings, but the style comes from the Word Processor default font.
Word Processor
Works 2.0 and 3.0
In the Word Processor, there are two types of headers and footers:
- Header and Footer Paragraphs: These can have one or more lines and
can include a drawing or other object. To create a header or
footer paragraph, click Headers & Footers from the
Edit menu and select the Use Header & Footer
Paragraphs check box.
Header and footer paragraphs can be formatted just as regular text is
formatted. Highlight the header/footer text in the document window
and select the font and style you want to use. - Standard Headers and Footers: These can have only one line of text
and are entered in the dialog box that appears when you click
Headers & Footers from the Edit menu.
They receive their formatting specifications from the very last
paragraph in the file. By placing your cursor to the left of the last
paragraph marker and clicking Font & Style from the
Format menu, you can assign the font and size you want to the
one-line header or footer. However, you cannot change the style (that
is, bold, italic, and so on) of a standard header and footer this
way.
To change the style of a header and footer, use header and footer
paragraphs rather than standard headers and footers.
Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a
In Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a, the header and footer paragraphs are always
visible and can be formatted the same way you format normal text. To change
the font, simply highlight the header or footer text and select the font
and style that you want.
Spreadsheet and Database
The process for changing the header and footer in the Spreadsheet and
Database is the same in Works 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a.
In the Spreadsheet and Database module, the option to use header and footer
paragraphs is disabled by design. You can obtain a similar result in the
spreadsheet by using the first few rows of the spreadsheet as a header and
using
Freeze Titles option to freeze these first few rows.
In the Spreadsheet module and in list view of the Database module, the font
used in the standard header and footer matches the font on the row and
column headers.
In form view of the Database module, the font used in the standard header
and footer matches the default font.
Refer to the Works for Windows "User's Guide" or your online help for
information about setting the default font in Works.
You can have standard headers and footers that use these default fonts, or
you can use the following procedure to obtain printed output of your
spreadsheet and database data along with formatted header and footer
paragraphs:
- Highlight the desired spreadsheet or database list view data, and
click Copy from the Edit menu. Open a new Word
Processor document and click Paste from the Edit
menu.
- Use the header and footer options as listed above for the Word
Processor, enter the desired header and footer text, format for the
desired font and style, and print.
