Modified Rounded Rectangles Disappear in Publisher (77727)

This article was previously published under Q77727

SUMMARY

Under some machine configurations, a rounded rectangle that has had its border changed to anything other than the 1pt default may have trouble redrawing when a page redraw is done. Everything will work correctly when viewed in actual size. Any scaled page size may exhibit these symptoms.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Use (for example) a Compaq 386/25 with a dual-video setup (Vega EGA and Viking 3/91M (1280 x 960 mono) using a Moniterm monitor.
  2. Create a new blank publication.
  3. Create a rounded rectangle and a text frame that overlap.
  4. Change the rounded rectangle border thickness to anything other than the 1pt default.
  5. Any of the following actions may cause the rectangle to disappear:
    1. Move the rounded rectangle.
    2. Move the text frame.
    3. Press CTRL+ESC to switch to Program Manager and return to Publisher.
    4. Moving another object across the rounded rectangle will "erase" part of it.

MORE INFORMATION

This appears to be a redraw error brought on by a combination of drivers and image scaling. The rounded rectangle may be made to disappear in other ways, and some actions will cause it to reappear as well. For example, moving the rounded rectangle around in the off-page workspace does not cause it to disappear. Moving it back onto the page will make it disappear.
