SUMMARY

The maximum, minimum, and interval scale for a chart axis in Works can be set with the Vertical (Y) Axis option under the Format menu. A maximum, minimum, and interval scale can be set for the Horizontal (X) Axis option, but only for an XY scatter chart.

MORE INFORMATION

Works automatically sets these values if "auto" is used in the Maximum, Minimum, and Interval options.

In Works 3.0 and Works for Windows 95

If the Data is formatted in General and the maximum and minimum scale are extremely large or small, Works 3.0 or Works for Windows 95 automatically shows the values in scientific notation. To show the values in their entirety, change the format of the Data to Fixed or Currency.

To format Data in Fixed or Currency:

  1. In the spreadsheet, highlight the range of cells.
  2. From the Format menu, click Number. Next, select Fixed or Currency.
To create a new chart with the Fixed or Currency formatted data:

  1. Highlight the data you want to chart.
  2. From the Toolbar click Chart or from the Tools menu, click Create New Chart.
  3. After creating the chart, from the Format menu of the chart, click Vertical Axis.
  4. Change the maximum and minimum and the interval settings. Click OK.

In Works for Windows version 2.0

Data, whether extremely large or small, will display in its entirety. Works 2.0 does allow you to display the values in scientific notation.

To enter a value of 1 million (1,000,000), in scientific notation: type 1e+6 in the Maximum box.

To enter a value of one 1 one-thousandth (0.001), type 1e-3 in the Minimum box.

The first number represents the actual number, and the "e" or exponential, represents the place value for the decimal point.
