Works: Footnote Appears Only at End of Document (76987)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 2.0
  • Microsoft Works 2.0a

This article was previously published under Q76987

SUMMARY

In Works 2.0, if you use Works' automatic footnote feature, you can only create endnotes. In other words, footnotes created using this method print at the end of the document, not at the end of each page.

In Works 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a, you can have either footnotes or endnotes created automatically.

MORE INFORMATION

To create the effect of footnotes that print at the bottom of each page in Works 2.0, you must manually position the footnote text and manually insert the footnote reference marks into the document.

To manually position the footnote text, follow these steps:

  1. Position the cursor on the last line of the page that you want the footnote to appear on.

NOTE: If you created a manual page break, there will be a horizontal dotted line on the page. Place the cursor before this line.

NOTE: An automatic page break is indicated by chevrons marking the first sentence of the next page. Position the cursor before this sentence.
  2. Type the footnote text in manually.

NOTE: You can apply formatting to this text manually, as you would for normal text (i.e. centered, bold, etc.)
To manually insert the footnote reference marks, follow these steps:

  1. Type the number of the footnote, then highlight it.
  2. From the Format menu, choose Font & Style.
  3. From the Position box, select Superscript.
  4. Choose OK or press ENTER.
