This article was previously published under Q76740 SUMMARY
If you use the Basic WIDTH statement to change your display to 43-line
text mode and you have the ANSI.SYS device driver from MS-DOS version
4.0 or 4.01 loaded, strange and/or garbled output can occur. This is a
result of problems with the ANSI.SYS driver from MS-DOS 4.0 and 4.01,
and does not occur with ANSI.SYS from other versions of MS-DOS.
This information applies to Microsoft QuickBasic version 4.5 for
MS-DOS and to Microsoft Basic Professional Development System (PDS)
versions 7.0 and 7.1 for MS-DOS and MS OS/2.
MORE INFORMATION
One customer reported that with the above configuration, he was not
able to print on lines 1-3. Another customer reported that with this
configuration, the video displayed random colors and characters until
a key was pressed. This problem occurs with the WIDTH 80,43 or WIDTH
40,43 command.
The problem can be avoided by not loading ANSI.SYS or by using a
different version of MS-DOS.
