SUMMARY

If you use an invalid character in a Category or Subcategory name, you receive one of the following error messages.

Microsoft Money 99 and Later

Names cannot contain the following:

[ ] :

Please enter a name that does not include these characters.

Money 98 and Money 97

Names cannot contain the following:

\ [ ] * ? "

Please enter a name that does not include these characters.

CAUSE

Certain characters cannot be used for Category or Subcategory names. The characters that cannot be used depends on which version of Money you are using.

Money 99 and Later

[ ] :

Money 98 and Money 97

\ [ ] * ? "

WORKAROUND

You must acknowledge the message (click OK), and the invalid character will then be highlighted. Then, select a different character.

You can use other non-alphabetic characters such as the following:
