QBX May Not Recognize Some Combined Keys on Non-U.S. Keyboards (74346)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visual Basic for MS-DOS
- Microsoft Basic Professional Development System (PDS) for MS-DOS and MS OS/2 7.0
- Microsoft Basic Professional Development System (PDS) for MS-DOS and MS OS/2 7.1
This article was previously published under Q74346 SYMPTOMS
The QBX.EXE environment may not correctly recognize the third or
fourth character on some international keyboard keys that represent
more than two characters.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Standard and
Professional Editions of Microsoft Visual Basic for MS-DOS, version
1.0; and Microsoft Basic Professional Development System (PDS) for
MS-DOS and MS OS/2, versions 7.0 and 7.1 (buglist7.00 buglist7.10).
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATION
For example, on the Netherlands keyboard, the backslash (\) character
is assigned as the third character on a key with the question mark (?)
and forward slash (/) characters. Backslash is produced by pressing
the right ALT key and the BACKSLASH key simultaneously. However, the
QBX.EXE environment will not recognize this key combination.
To work around this problem, you can hold down the ALT key and press
92 (the ASCII code for backslash) on the numeric keypad to enter the
backslash character directly. The ALT+<ASCII code> method should
work for any key that is not recognized by the QBX.EXE environment.
