Using IBM EE 1.2 LAN Server on LAN Man Controlled Domain (64488)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft LAN Manager 2.0
  • Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1

This article was previously published under Q64488

SUMMARY

Although IBM EE 1.2 LAN Server's Netlogon service and Microsoft OS/2 LAN Manager version 2.0 or 2.1's Netlogon service are incompatible on the same domain, it is possible for an IBM EE 1.2 LAN server to log onto the OS/2 LAN Manager domain controller.

To accomplish this, delete the NETLOGON service from the "srvservices =" line of the IBMLAN.INI file in every IBM EE 1.2 LAN server in the domain. Then, set up user accounts for the IBM EE 1.2 LAN servers and requesters in the OS/2 LAN Manager domain controller user accounts database, just as you do when dealing with other OS/2 LAN Manager servers and workstations.

MORE INFORMATION

  1. Modifying the IBMLAN.INI file by hand and not starting an IBM EE 1.2 LAN Server standard service is not considered to be a "proper" solution, but it does allow an IBM EE 1.2 LAN Server to log onto an OS/2 LAN Manager domain controller.
  2. Some user, group, password, and domain names allowable in OS/2 LAN Manager versions 2.0 and 2.1 are not compatible with IBM EE 1.2 LAN Server. For more information query on the following words:
