This article was previously published under Q62865 SUMMARY
Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) monitoring can be enabled by installing
the UPS.SYS device driver and the UPS.EXE service.
The only parameter available for the UPS.SYS device driver is /PORT, which
allows you to select which COM port is monitored. The default is COM1;
therefore, to explicitly select the COM port the following syntax must be
used:
device=<drive>:<path>\UPS.SYS /PORT:COM2
The UPS.EXE service has an parameter not mentioned in the installation
guide: /DEVICENAME. It allows you to set the device driver the service
monitors to one other than the default driver, "UPS_DEV" (the name that
UPS.SYS registers with the system).
A UPS device driver development kit is available from Microsoft.
