Hiding Folders & Changing Other Folder Attributes with ResEdit (58212)

SUMMARY

The procedure below describes how you can use ResEdit to change a Macintosh folder's attribute, for example, making a folder hidden.

ResEdit is supplied with Microsoft QuickBASIC 1.00 for the Apple Macintosh. Updated versions of ResEdit may be obtained from Macintosh user groups or from Apple Computer, Inc.

To hide a folder or change other folder attributes, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Double-click ResEdit to start it.
  2. Single-click on the folder you want to modify, thus highlighting that folder. (Do not double-click on the folder because this shows you the contents of the folder, not the folder attributes.)
  3. Choose Get Info from the File menu. A dialog box that allows you to change the folder's name and attributes appears. Changeable attributes include Locked, Invisible, Inited, System, On Desk, Bozo, Busy, and Changed.
  4. Put an X in the box next to "Invisible" to make the folder hidden.
  5. Choose Quit from the File menu.
  6. Answer Yes to the "Save <Info for folder _____> before closing?" prompt.
  7. The folder is now hidden (invisible) and can be "unhidden" (made visible) by following the same steps. (Note: Although the folder is not visible on the Desktop, it is visible in ResEdit.)
