This article was previously published under Q48554 SYMPTOMS
When you copy a graphic from Microsoft Word and paste it into a graphics
program or into the Scrapbook, if text or a paragraph marker is copied with
the graphic, the graphic pastes in as a blank box. If the graphic is then
copied from the Scrapbook and pasted back into Word, it is displayed
correctly. However, if the original graphic is copied back from the
graphics program into Word, it is pasted as a blank box.
CAUSE
The reason for this behavior is the way Word exports information to
the Clipboard. Word places three Apple System standard scrap types
onto the Clipboard for transporting to other programs. They are TEXT,
PICT, and "RTF "(Rich Text Format).
If text is copied, Word places a combination of TEXT and RTF on the
Clipboard, so that formatting is kept with the text. If a graphic is
copied, Word places a PICT element on the Clipboard. If a graphic and text
are copied, Word places a combination of TEXT and RTF on the Clipboard,
which shows no PICT information, because it is embedded in the RTF type.
