WD: Hyphenated Text Pasted from MacWord Appears as Boxes (46887)

If you paste text that has been hyphenated within Microsoft Word for the
Macintosh into other programs, boxes are pasted in the place of the
hyphenation. When printed, these boxes appear as blank spaces.
CAUSE
Hyphenated text created by Word's Hyphenate command, uses the "soft"
hyphens (ASCII value 31) rather than the standard "hard" hyphens (ASCII
value 45).
WORKAROUND
To export hyphenated text created by Word's Hyphenate command, to a
different program, use the appropriate method below.
Word Versions 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.0.1, and 98- Position the insertion point at the beginning of the document.
- On the Edit menu, click Replace.
- In the Find What box, type the following:
^31 (the "^" is created by pressing SHIFT+6).
- In the Replace With box, type the following:
- Click Replace All.
Word Version 4.0- Position the insertion point at the beginning of the document.
- On the Utilities menu, click Change.
- In the Find What box, type the following:
^31 (where "^" is created by pressing SHIFT+6).
- In the Change To box, type the following:
- Click Change All.
Word Version 3.x- Position the insertion point at the beginning of the document.
- On the Search menu, click Change.
- In the Find What box, type the following:
^31 (the "^" is created by pressing SHIFT+6)
- In the Change To box, type the following:
- Click Change All.
