This article was previously published under Q37303

SUMMARY

QuickBASIC Version 1.00 for the Apple Macintosh is not compatible with (nor tested with) the AppleShare file server.

QuickBASIC is compatible with printing over the AppleTalk Network system if you OPEN the device name "LPT1:" or "LPT1:PROMPT", or select PRINT from the File menu to print a program listing.

Printing is the only service that is built into the AppleTalk Network. AppleShare is a separate software server package that runs on the AppleTalk network.

MORE INFORMATION

The AppleTalk Personal Network (from Apple Inc.) physically connects multiple Macintosh computers and Apple printers.

AppleShare is a software server that runs on an AppleTalk network. A server such as AppleShare allows computers to run applications that reside on another machine, usually called the host. QuickBASIC or programs compiled in QuickBASIC are not designed (or tested) to open files or run remotely over the AppleShare server.

The following products are not compatible with (or tested with) the AppleShare server:

  1. Microsoft QuickBASIC Version 1.00 for the Apple Macintosh
  2. Microsoft BASIC Compiler Version 1.00 for the Apple Macintosh
  3. Microsoft BASIC Interpreter Versions 1.00, 1.01, 2.00, 2.10, and 3.00 for the Apple Macintosh
